Words in the sand

I wanted to draw your attention to the work of the most excellent Laura Forman and Richard Clayton. In November last year I sent a message out to many of my friends, asking them whether they would prefer my debut poetry collection to be called Citizen or How To Build A City. There was about equal support for both, with perhaps How To just edging out Citizen. Laura and Rich were so keen on the former that they inscribed their choice on Montauk beach, Long Island.

The fine American poet Andrew Feld used Citizen as a title a few years back. One more reason for going with the other, better title.

  2. Cheers Roddy! Yes, I found out about the Feld book afterwards.. phew..

I was thinking about this the other day, and realised that ‘How to’ is definitely the better choice. Your mates are absolutely right.
